Balance is our ability to stay upright and steady in a range of stable or dynamic situations. In order to keep our balance our bodies have developed complex and sophisticated mechanisms. Our brains gather information from three external or internal sources: from balance organs in our ears, from visual information through our eyes and from sensors in our joints and muscles. The brain then combines all of this information and works out where our head and body are in relation to our surroundings and we are able to move around.
